Embedded computing

At the end of the 90s, new standards were introduced and modified the world of the embedded computing market (or Machine to Machine - M2M):

• embedded operating systems deployment: Windows, XPemb, CEemb, Linux emb or real time operating systems (ex: RMX, etc.),
• development of cellular networks (xDSL), and SMS,
• installation of standard communication protocols in the vending world : BDV, EXE, then MDB.

Costs decreased, the industrialization of micro-processing cards allowed a globalization of standards, for a more harmonious deployment of automats.

Currently rapidly expanding, the global M2M market should, according to IDATE (the European audiovisual and telecommunications institute), increase tenfold within the next five years. While the number of devices in question reached 92 million in 2004, this number should increase fivefold in twenty years and involve about 2 billion machines and 100 billion communicating devices.
